📣 WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WIN THE SPIRIT OF SIX? 📣🏀

Many people see cheerleaders on the sideline at the State B Tournament and think it’s just about cheering loud and having fun. But the Spirit of Six Award is about so much more than that.

The Spirit of Six is one of the highest honors a cheer squad can receive at the South Dakota State Basketball Tournament. The award was created to honor six Rapid City cheerleaders who tragically lost their lives in a plane crash in 1968 while returning home from the state tournament. Because of their love for their team, their school, and the game, this award continues to recognize squads that carry that same spirit today.

So what does it actually take to win the Spirit of Six?

❤️ School Spirit – Bringing nonstop energy and excitement to every game and representing our school with pride.

👏 Crowd Leadership – Leading the crowd, keeping fans engaged, and helping create an unforgettable atmosphere for our team.

🤝 Sportsmanship – Respecting officials, opposing teams, and every fan in the arena. The judges are always watching how teams treat others.

📣 Enthusiasm & Energy – Cheering from the first whistle to the final buzzer, no matter the score.

🏀 Supporting Our Team – Our job is to lift up our players and help create an environment where they can succeed.

✨ Character On and Off the Court – Judges watch how squads act in the stands, in the hallways, in hotels, and everywhere in between.

👕 Professional Appearance – From uniforms to organization, teams are judged on how they represent their school.

Winning the Spirit of Six isn’t just about a cheer team—it’s about an entire community showing up with pride, positivity, and heart.

So when you come to State B, bring the noise, bring the energy, and most importantly bring the Flyer pride. Our cheerleaders will give everything they have on the sideline, and with the support of our fans, we can truly show the entire state what our community is all about.

Let’s pack the stands, lead the cheers, and show everyone the spirit of our town. ❤️
