Freeman School District Food Service Program

About
The Freeman School District proudly operates a school-managed food service program, offering students healthy and nutritious breakfast and lunch options at a reasonable price. Our goal is to ensure every student has access to meals that support their academic success and well-being.

Lunch Account Management with Infinite Campus We use Infinite Campus, an online system that helps manage lunch charges and student accounts efficiently. Each family has one central lunch account, while each student is assigned their own unique lunch ID number. Students use this ID at the register when purchasing meals. For added security, a photo of the student appears on the screen as their number is entered to confirm their identity. Lunch payment status (free, reduced, or paid) is confidential and does not appear on the screen.

Account Balances & Making Payments Families can check lunch balances and make payments by logging into Infinite Campus through the school district’s website. Please note, there is a processing fee for online payments. Instructions for making online payments can be found on the Food Services page. Payments can also be sent directly with your student to any school office. If paying by cash, please include the last name of your youngest student on the envelope. For checks, please write the same information on the memo line.

Important: The lunch program is a pre-payment system, not a credit system. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to ensure a positive balance is maintained in the student’s lunch account.

Refunds and Account Balances If a student graduates and has no siblings remaining in the district, or if a family is moving out of the district, a refund of the lunch account balance will be issued. For students returning the following school year, any remaining funds will roll over and be available for use when school resumes.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications Free and reduced-price meals are available for families who qualify through the Freeman School District. Families can apply online through the Parent Portal in Infinite Campus, pick up a paper application at the Business Office, or print a form from the Food Service page on the website. Additionally, applications can be requested by mail by contacting the Business Office. If you have received a Notice of Direct Certification for free meals, you automatically qualify and do not need to complete an application. Families who qualified for free or reduced-price meals the previous year must submit a new application each school year. Applications for the upcoming school year are accepted beginning July 1, and the Business Office will also be available to assist during Open House. Applications can be submitted at any time during the school year if there is a change in family income or size. Please note that free or reduced-price status applies only to breakfast and lunch meals—not to à la carte items such as double entrees, entrée-only purchases, or second milks. If you have questions or need assistance with the application process, please contact the Business Office at Angele.Letcher@k12.sd.us.

Meal Change:
The school will make substitutions to the regular meal pattern for children who have a restricted diet. A ‘Meal Change Request' must be filled out and signed by a physician. This form can be picked up at any of the school offices or printed from the link on the food service web page.

Unpaid lunch account Policy:
All families are encouraged to apply for free or reduced meal price benefit. Any family with a negative balance will receive written notification and a free/reduced application to encourage them to apply. All ala cart purchases are the households responsibly . Emails are sent out weekly for balances of $20.00 or less to notify families of a low balance. Please check your account often to keep a positive balance at all times.

Please read our food service meal charge district policy for more details.

Angel Fund Lunch Account:
The Freeman School District offers an "Angel Fund" to support students whose families are experiencing significant life challenges. This donation-based account helps cover school meal costs for those in need. With input from administrators, the business office determines how funds are distributed to best support families in need. How to Donate. To contribute, simply write a check to Freeman School District and include "Angel Fund" on the memo line. All donations go directly toward helping students within our district.

Thank you for helping us pay it forward and support our Freeman community!
