Congratulations to Claire Loofbourrow on being named as the catcher to the Argus Leader Starting 9: South Dakota's best softball players! The team is comprised of athletes from all three classes. They are broken down positionally, with one pitcher, one catcher, four infielders, and three outfielders. Loofbourrow, a junior catcher for the Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy Phoenix, led the team to the consolation championship at the state tournament in the final year of the cooperative. Great work, Claire!

Athletes earn All-State recognition by finishing among the top eight performers in their event when results from all three classes (AA, A, and B) are combined. With nearly 3,000 athletes competing at the state meet each year, All-State status is one of the highest honors a South Dakota track and field athlete can achieve!

🥎🔥 STATE B TOURNAMENT CONSOLATION CHAMPS! 🔥🥎

The Phoenix soared to a 9-3 victory over Redfield on Saturday behind a dominant performance from Harli Ross! 💪🔥 Harli was lights out in the circle, striking out 13 batters while pitching a complete game.

Offensively, the Phoenix stayed aggressive with 10 stolen bases and key hits from Aubree Tschetter, Remington Weier, and Claire Loofbourrow. Claire drove in 2 runs to help fuel the offense as the team finished an incredible tournament run! 🏃‍♀️💨🥎

🥎🥎The Phoenix battered the Avon Pirates with 17 hits and 13 runs in a consolation semifinal victory. Claire Loofbourrow collected 3 hits, including the first HR of the State B Tournament. Avary Thomas had three hits as well, and Remington Weier collected 3 RBIs on two hits. The 13-4 victory puts the Phoenix into the consolation championship game against Redfield who edged out Florence-Henry in the 2:00 PM game.
